We Will Reschedule Our Type 1 Diabetes Family Picnic in Dubai
As most of you in the UAE are now probably aware, schools and universities across the country will close for one month as part of their efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus. According to the announcement from the Ministry of Education and local news reports, this will start on Sunday, March 8th. News reports have also mentioned that spring break will shift and children will continue to learn via distance education. If you have school aged children in the UAE, please follow up with your school to understand their plans for this because no two schools are alike, and schools are also taking their directives from the relevant authorities.
In light of this announcement, we have taken the decision to postpone the Diapoint Type 1 Diabetes Family Picnic (previously scheduled for 20th March, 2020).
I do this with somewhat of a heavy heart because I have wanted to organize this for children and adults with Type 1 Diabetes for some time. However, the decision was not a difficult one because I know that it is the right thing to do at this time given the circumstances. All of us at Diapoint and our partners who support this event are fully aligned with this decision. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our children and families.
We are in the process of looking for new dates to hold the event and we will be in touch with you all in the near future to inform you about the new date. As I am always looking for the lesson and positive notes of any situation, the good news is that we now have even more time to plan this event. That means that the event will continue to grow, and we hope it will become even bigger and better than our original plans – all of that is very exciting.
What To Do If You Have Already Registered
For those of you who purchased tickets to the event there are a few options:
- That donation can still be made to the Al Jalila Foundation. Diapoint will pay it forward to them, and reserve your place at the newly scheduled date for no charge. As an expression of our gratitude for your early support of this event, we will also send you a code for a 10% discount to use in the D-Shop.
- Request a full refund for the tickets that you purchased.
Please send us an email to info@diapointme.com about how you would like to proceed with your tickets.
Where To Go For Reliable Health Information
As it may still feel like there are many unknowns, we recommend that you get your news from reliable sources or authorities on the matter. The World Health Organization is a good place to start. They are the ultimate authority on world health, after all. We also follow up with the US agency, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) website.
Whatever country you live in, we strongly suggest that you follow up with your local health authority for more guidance. Where we live it is the Ministry of Health and Prevention as well as the Dubai Health Authority.
How To Get Diapoint Updates
To be notified when our Diabetes Family Picnic is rescheduled, make sure you are on our mailing list.
We will also publish a notice on our Events page and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
I look forward to updating you all about the picnic in the near future. We will share the new date and others details as soon as we have those.
Thank you all for your support of Diapoint, this event and our other work. If there has ever been an upside to my child getting a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis, it is meeting all the amazing, supportive people and organizations who we have connected with on this journey.
