What does it mean to live boldly with Type 1 diabetes without allowing a diagnosis to set the limits of your life?
In this inspiring conversation, I’m joined by Chris Roome, founder of Project InsulNation, a community built by and for people living with Type 1 diabetes. Chris shares his powerful story behind the organization and its mission to create life-changing adventures that bring people together, build confidence, and challenge outdated assumptions about what is possible with T1D.
We explore the emotional and practical realities of managing Type 1 diabetes while pursuing adventure, travel, physical challenges, and a full life. Chris also reflects on the importance of connection, especially the relief and empowerment that can come from being surrounded by people who truly understand the daily decisions, resilience, and courage that life with Type1 diabetes can require.
This episode is for anyone living with Type 1 diabetes, supporting someone who is, or seeking a more hopeful and expansive perspective on chronic health conditions. It is a reminder that a diagnosis can be part of your story, but it does not have to write the ending.
Project InsulNation describes its work as creating community-driven adventures for people with Type 1 diabetes, with the aim of inspiring bold living and deeper connection.
Chris Roome is the founder of Project InsulNation, an adventure-based organization helping adults with Type 1 diabetes build confidence, independence, and community through challenging outdoor experiences. He was diagnosed with T1D at age 11 and has spent more than two decades learning how to pursue ambitious goals without allowing diabetes to define his limits.
His adventures have included marathons, ultramarathons, Spartan races, winter mountain ascents, Arctic dogsledding, and multi-day backpacking expeditions. Today, he leads teams of people with T1D into demanding backcountry environments, helping them build real-world diabetes management skills while discovering what they are truly capable of.
He is also a husband, father of four, advocate, entrepreneur, and person in long-term recovery. Through Project InsulNation, he is working to shift the narrative around Type 1 diabetes from fear and limitation to preparation, connection, and possibility.

You will hear us interview medical experts and others, but please always always ask your qualified doctor, diabetes team or other expert about your health. What works for one person does not always work for another person. What you should always do when you discover any new health information is ask YOUR doctor about it. This information should empower you to have a discussion with your healthcare providers about it. Diapoint, our guests, sponsors and business partners are not here to replace that advice. Living a full, healthy life means taking the proper medical advice from your qualified physicians, diabetes team or other healthcare providers.

About Dia-Logue: The Diapoint Podcast and Pamela Durant
Pam Durant is a diabetes thought leader, entrepreneur, healthcare expert and wellness coach. She is the Founder and Managing Director of Diapoint – The Place for People Touched By Diabetes.
Her successful healthcare management career was turned upside down when her 20-month-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over a decade ago. Not only did this challenge Pam as a parent, it also challenged everything that she believed and understood about healthcare and the provider-patient relationship. As she went on to tackle the steep learning curve of diabetes to support her son to grow and thrive with this condition, she soon realized the great need for change in healthcare and in diabetes management.
She was inspired to create Diapoint, a company that focuses on people with diabetes through events, education, advocacy and products to support them.
She also supports clients with her Wellness and Lifestyle Medicine Coaching at pameladurant.com.
