Imagine you are a carefree child and you suddenly learn that you have a chronic condition that will require you to take medication and test your blood sugar levels for the rest of your life.

That is what happened to Michael Matafonov when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 8. It was a lot to handle, but he got through it with the help of family and friends. And, eventually, he decided to turn his experience into a positive one by becoming a personal trainer.

In this episode, Michael shares his diabetic story and offers some tips and advice for people living with diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis to personal trainer

Michael Matafonov is a personal trainer with Type 1 Diabetes.

Michael is 25 years old, and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2005. Originally from Australia, Michael has been living in the UAE for 19 years. His goal in life is to help as many people as possible realize their potential, achieve their goals, and be happy.

To manage his diabetes, Michael uses a Medtronic Insulin Pump and a FreeStyle Libre. He loves football, meditation, reading self-help books and volunteering with children. He collects vintage football shirts and unique trainers.
