Season 4, Episode 14: Pushing Beyond Limits – A Dialogue with Phil Southerland

Phil Southerland always says, “Diabetes only chooses the champions.”

In this episode of Dia-Logue: The Diapoint Podcast, Pam has the pleasure of speaking with a true champion, Phil Southerland, founder of Team Novo and Supersapiens. He shares his journey with Type 1 Diabetes and how he uses his experience to constantly help others and raise the bar of what is possible. From his early diagnosis as an infant to his successful career, Phil inspires us to push beyond limitations and redefine what’s possible.

During the conversation, Phil shares his insights on innovation, advocacy, and the importance of not believing the naysayers. We talk about Team Novo, the pro-cycling team comprised entirely of Type 1 athletes who, in addition to competing, are dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring people who have diabetes. He also shares his latest venture – Supersapiens – a real-time glucose monitoring system that empowers athletes to optimize their performance and health.

Throughout the episode, Phil offers practical advice and inspiration for anyone facing challenges or striving to achieve their goals. His passion for making a difference in the lives of people with diabetes is contagious, and his story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit.

About Dia-Logue: The Diapoint Podcast and Pamela Durant

Pam Durant is a diabetes thought leader, entrepreneur, healthcare expert and wellness coach. She is the Founder and Managing Director of Diapoint – The Place for People Touched By Diabetes.

Her successful healthcare management career was turned upside down when her 20-month-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over a decade ago. Not only did this challenge Pam as a parent, it also challenged everything that she believed and understood about healthcare and the provider-patient relationship. As she went on to tackle the steep learning curve of diabetes to support her son to grow and thrive with this condition, she soon realized the great need for change in healthcare and in diabetes management.

She was inspired to create Diapoint, a company that focuses on people with diabetes through events, education, advocacy and products to support them.

She also supports clients with her Wellness and Lifestyle Medicine Coaching at pameladurant.com.

If you are interested in appearing as a guest, please email us at info@diapointme.com. We would love to hear your story and your connection to diabetes.
