Do you celebrate your diaversary? That’s the anniversary of the day you received your diabetes diagnosis. Many people like to recognize this day as one more year of soldiering on, living life regardless of diabetes. Others don’t feel it’s a day to celebrate at all. What do you think?
Recently it was book character day at my son’s school. This is an annual thing where all the kids get to dress as their favorite character from a book that they have read. My son chose Auggie Pullman from the book Wonder by RJ Palacio. I loved this book on so many levels because of its message of acceptance.
My diabetes motto for my son is “identify with it, but don’t let it define you.” He can do everything his classmates and peers do. There is no such word as “can’t”.
