The Agenda Podcast with Tom Urquhart – Featuring DiapointME Founder, Pamela Durant
The Agenda podcast on Dubai Eye, 103.8FM, is a wonderful radio program in the UAE covering important topics that affect so many people. Listeners get to call in and have their say – it’s a rare interactive format not commonly seen in the Middle East.
I was thrilled to be invited to be featured on The Agenda podcast for The News Review for World Diabetes Day 2018, to talk about my journey and that of my son, who was diagnosed with Type 1 at 20 months old.
World Diabetes Day is on November 14 each year, to recognize the birthday of Dr Frederick Banting, who discovered insulin. It’s a very busy day for us at Diapoint each year, and 2018 was no exception!
In the interview, I describe how almost a decade ago my baby son’s thirst seemed escalated. He was way too thirsty, even for the time of year and the country we were in (it was August in Dubai – notoriously hot). We knew something wasn’t right when he drank 1.5 litres plus milk and juice in a day. We took him to his pediatrician and found his blood sugar to be extremely high.
That’s where our story begins.
I’d love for you to hear the rest – listen here, and be sure to leave a comment below to tell me your story too!
